Oversight

More than 700,000 people signed, 200k+ more than required, yet the Board of State Canvassers deadlocked. Our select committee is examining what happened.

What we say

Our select committee held its first meeting diving into the rules and procedures that guide Michigan's Bureau of Elections and Board of Canvassers when it comes to certifying petitions. The Americans for Citizen Voting testimony was very revealing. The petition had 200k+ more signatures than required, handwriting experts, signed affidavits, an outside audit, and they turned in their signatures months before the deadline — but the Bureau of Elections slow-walked it and the Board of Canvassers deadlocked on party lines. When an issue that has 80% national support can jump through all the hoops and STILL get denied, something has to change in the system.
